Medway Universities Boatrace The challenge will continue on Saturday 15th May 2010 UPDATE 15 FEBRUARY 2010 Planning for this exciting event is well underway. The third Universities at Medway Boat Race will take place on Saturday May 15th. The course will run for two miles downstream, from Elmhaven Marina to the Medway Towns Rowing Club. Current planning and training so far has identified 2 men’s eights, one from the University of Greenwich and the other from the University of Kent. Start time for their race will be approximately 1.00pm. This will be followed at 1.30 pm by the ladies’ fours race, between one crew from the University of Kent and another from Christchurch University . The best viewing for the races will be from the Medway Towns Rowing Club, on the Esplanade, where parking for supporters and the public is available, and refreshments will be served. The ceremony to present the winners trophy and medals for all participants, at approximately 2.30pm, will be held there, too. To test the waters and increase the excitement of the occasion, morning races will be underway from 11.00am, when crews from local clubs and the MTRC will race upstream from Hathaway Court to the Medway Towns Clubhouse. The MTRC works alongside the Universities at Medway Sports Association [UMSA], to organize the annual boat race. MTRC assists with training crews, providing boats and facilities, and hosting the races. Students from previous years, including Cassie Frabrace, Tim Powell and Bex Heaton, have provided excellent continuity assisting in this years preparations and motivating new rowers. They will also take part in this year’s race. This is a very exciting local event, featuring Rochester’s famous, historic river! Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the event. |
