Building the Boathouse

The photograph above was taken 23rd May 2008

The Boathouse was designed by Jim Beaney who led the team that oversaw the erection of the building. He continues to be part of the team now led by Brian Dees that is overseeing the internal arrangements and the entrance ramps and balcony are currently under construction. Fitting out is going to take several more months but it is hoped that an official opening ceremony will take place during the summer of 2008. An announcement will made in good time to allow as many of our members, old and new, to be aware of this special event and attend during our Golden Jubilee year.  We now have a boathouse of which we can be justly proud and when complete it will the envy of many Clubs.  See below for a blow by blow account of the story behind building the Boathouse.

The Early Construction

The Programme of work was to make a concrete base, erect a steel frame, build retaining walls and floors and finally add the roof and clad the sides.

The Boathouse is still someway from being complete but its potential is clear for all to see.
