British Universities and Colleges Sport Rowing Championships 2009
It was a event to remember for our rowers. Crews from the Medway Universities, who compete with the Medway Towns Rowing Club, took to the purpose-built rowing course at Nottingham for the Annual British Universities and Colleges’ regatta. Against competition from many elite university crews, the men’s crew completed the 1750metre course in 7 mins 12 seconds while the ladies’ scored an impressive 8 mins 50 seconds.
Tim Powell, Matthew Johnson, Craig Morton and Fraser Moncrieff were delighted with their performance. Fraser said, “It was fantastic. We all plan to enter again to build on our experience.”
Bex Heaton, Cassie Farbrace, Emily Luff and Debbie Canderton were delighted with their performance, too. Bex said, “It’s the best time we’ve done so far, so we were very pleased. Altogether it was a great weekend and we all plan to do even better next year.”
Cassie Farbrace and Bex Heaton entered the ladies’ doubles in rising cross winds coming in a respectable 4th.
Tim Powell and Matthew Johnson entered the men’s doubles. Their time in the heats was good enough for the semi-finals, but they placed 4th in their repechage, outside the selection. Matthew Johnson entered as a single sculler and made it through to the time trials. He was also pleased with his achievement.
