MTRC is delighted to announce the success of its application to British Rowing to join its Explore Rowing Programme and we have now had confirmation that we are an Explore Rowing accredited Club. Anna Flawn has agreed to be the Explore Rowing Representative for the Club.

The aim of the programme is to encourage persons of all ages over 16 to take up rowing and to introduce them to the sport by way of 8 to 10 week Learn to Row courses run by the Club.  This scheme is not just for those who want to compete but is very much for those who just wish to row for recreation and the health benefits and we will be required to formally set up a recreational rowing section of the Club and appoint an Explore Rowing co-ordinator.  The Club will be required to organise a local recreational tour each year and to join with other local clubs in an annual regional tour.

To help set up the programme the Club has been provided with the funds to purchase two stable double sculls/pairs, two stable singles and a second coaching launch with outboard motor.

This will complete the set of stable/training boats purchased from Swift Racing as we have previously purchased two boats, each for four people, which can be rigged for sweep oared rowing or sculling.  All the stable boats will be available for members of the local community who sign up to Explore Rowing and for our other beginners, recreational and junior members.

The new boats have been ordered and should be delivered within the next four weeks.  There is no doubt that all five boats will be a welcome addition to our fleet and will be a great aid to our future development.
