The
Club is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its
recent application to the Sport England Small Awards programme. We
have been fortunate in being awarded £10,000 to assist with our
project Growth in Community Rowing. The money has been paid to
substantially meet the cost of purchasing a second “Swift” stable
four/five suitable for both sculling and rowing and training or
recreational use and, a “Swift” racing double or pair.
Sport
England’s summary of our project is as follows:-
The
project is twofold in its purchase of 2 additional boats; one will be
used to implement ‘learn to row course’s and support introductory
sessions but will also support the recreational aspects of the sport
to cater for people not wishing to progress into competitive rowing.
The other will focus on ensuring there are sufficient capabilities
within the club for progression to racing standard. These have been
highlighted as a way to ensure that the increase in participation at
the club can be sustained and ensuring new/existing members have the
opportunity to train to racing standard and develop from a quad to
single sculling. The project will target 155 individuals to try the
sport at least once but hopes to achieve 13 new members.
The two boats
have now been delivered and are a very timely and useful addition to
our boat fleet.The
stable 4/5 is already in service as part of a learn to row course for
students of the Universities of Medway and the double scull will have
its first race at the Docklands Head on 13 November.
The Club is very grateful (and relieved)
to have received the award.
The two additional boats have
considerably eased what was a difficult situation with regard to
equipment. |
